  • Narragansett Bay Reserve [.GOV] - The National Estuarine Research Reserves System is a network of 27 areas representing different biogeographic regions of the United States that are protected for long-term research, water-quality monitoring, education and coastal stewardship.
  • The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is one of 27 Reserves in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) [.ORG] - Currently, the NERRS protects over 1 million acres of estuarine waters and adjacent upland habitats. The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve protects approximately 4400 acres of land and water.

  • NOAA Fisheries Service - Northeast Regional Office - [.GOV] The Sustainable Fisheries Division provides and oversees technical/scientific/administrative coordination between the Fishery Management Councils and the Secretary for purposes of developing, implementing and monitoring performance of fishery management plans prepared by the New England Fishery Management Council and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council under 16 United States Code (USC) 1853.
  • NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service Northeast Fisheries Science Center: Woods Hole Laboratory [.GOV] - The Woods Hole facility occupies 3.4 acres on Vineyard Sound. The facility houses both the Woods Hole Laboratory Research Divisions and the Northeast Fisheries Science Center Directorate. The Center provides overall management and direction for the five laboratories located in the Northeast Region.
  • Fisheries Research Lab for NOAA Fisheries Service in the USA -Northeast Region [.GOV] - is the research arm of NOAA Fisheries in the region. The Center plans, develops, and manages a multidisciplinary program of basic and applied research to: (1) better understand living marine resources of the Northeast Continental Shelf Ecosystem from the Gulf of Maine to Cape Hatteras, and the habitat quality essential for their existence and continued productivity; and (2) describe and provide to management, industry, and the public, options for the conservation and utilization of living marine resources, and for the restoration and maintenance of marine environmental quality.
  • New England Fishery Manangement Council [.ORG] - NEFMC The Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976, (renamed the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act when amended on October 11, 1996) established a U.S. exclusive economic zone (EEZ) between 3 and 200 miles offshore, and created eight regional fishery councils to manage the living marine resources within that area. The Act was passed principally to address heavy foreign fishing, promote the development of a domestic fleet and link the fishing community more directly to the management process.

  • Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs: Narragansett/Mount Hope Bay Watershed [.GOV] - The Mount Hope Bay Shores and Narragansett Bay Watershed is located in southeastern Massachusetts and a small portion of eastern Rhode Island. The Mount Hope/Narragansett Bay Watershed has an area of 112 square miles and encompasses all or part of eight municipalities, including small portions of the Cities of Fall River and Attleboro.
